Originally reserved for high-ranking officers during World War I and II, the trench coat—produced mainly by Burberry and Aquascutum—became extremely popular in military circles. Its name reflects its origins: “trench coat” literally means “coat for the trenches.” This was until it fascinated Hollywood during its Golden Age. Thanks to the influence of cinema, the trench coat began to lose its military connotation and became associated with entirely different figures. In classic films, it became the signature garment of detectives, journalists, spies, gentlemen, strong women, and sophisticated femme fatales. Our piece takes inspiration from the traditional trench coat. Our winter version is made from a mix of check wool fabrics, solid green cotton/wool blend, and khaki cotton. The fit is slightly tailored to the body. The sleeves, collar, and wind flap (designed to protect against wind and rain) are made from the cotton/wool blend, while the back panel is in khaki cotton. The lining is an orange twill. The buttons are made from dark horn.
