The term “Oxford” refers to the fabric, not the garment.
Developed in Scotland during the 19th century, it was part of a series of fabrics dedicated to some of the most prestigious British universities.
Its basketweave construction, combining finer yarns in the warp and thicker yarns in the weft, ensures lightness and breathability. These qualities made Oxford particularly suitable for polo shirts, leading English players to add buttons at the base of the collar to keep it in place during play, giving rise to the classic button-down.
This button-down shirt is crafted from cotton oxford, in a slightly lighter version than traditional ones, designed for greater versatility.
