Button down shirt in oxford cotton with yarn-dyed stripes. The term “Oxford” refers to the fabric and not the shirt, in fact it was developed during the nineteenth century in Scotland, as part of a series of four fabrics aimed at celebrating the best universities in the world. The particularity of this fabric lies in its lightness and breathability, possible thanks to the basket structure between thinner threads for the warp and a thicker one for the weft. These characteristics made the Oxford shirts perfect as official uniforms for English polo players, then they began to sew buttons at the base of the neck for practicality, adding to this garment another of its distinctive elements, the button down.
