The beginning, TEACOOD
TEACOOD was founded in Milan in 2021 as a promoter of Japanese tea culture and traditions in Italy.
Their constant research is not exclusively focused on tea itself but also on all the world and traditions surrounding it, encouraging meetings and innovations for a different and more actual approach to the Japanese tea industry.

WASHIZU, ARTISAN FROM SHIZUOKA PREFECTURE
Washizu, aka Wahizu-San, is an artisan from Shizuoka, in his laboratory, founded more than 100 years ago, he carries forward the plant-based dyeing legacy of Japan. The tea dyeing process has been introduced by merging the Suruga (A traditional dyeing process from Shizuoka Prefecture) with its main industry, the tea one. The activities of Washizu-san seemed perfect for us to talk about Japan, its traditions, and Teacood. By making Tea Dyed T-shirts, Tea Shirts, we let you wear traditions in the present, as usual!
The process
1.Tea leaves from other production processes are selected and prepared to be used as a base for the dye. The Shizuoka prefecture has been a tradition since 1200 and it is responsible for 40% of Japanese Tea production. Shizuoka is only 30 km from Mount Fuji, which could explain the exceptional fertility of this land.
2.The selected leaves are slowly boiled and then filtered in a cotton cloth to remove extra debris which can lead to color inhomogeneity.
3.A small part of iron, which is used as mordent, is added to the mixture, and then the fabrics are slowly boiled at a higher temperature, the process is repeated until the right color tone is reached.
4.The leftover leaves are mixed with organic industrial waste, like okara (the white pulp leftover from vegetal milk production) and wood chips, the final result is compost which is used as fertilizer, this is an almost perfect circular process.
